Job Description:
The University of Miami, Department of Theatre Arts is seeking applications for a Theatre Lighting Technician to begin August 15, 2023. This is a full-time position.
The Theatre Lighting Technician at the Jerry Herman Ring Theatre organizes the information from the lighting design drawings to determine the most efficient way to hang and focus lighting instruments for each production. The successful candidate will lead the staff electrician and a student crew in the hanging and focusing of the lighting instruments, troubleshoot the lighting system for each production; communicates with the lighting designers to ensure that implementation of the lighting design is consistent with expectations; estimates time and money necessary for implementation of lighting designs, and communicates these needs to the Production Manager.
The successful candidate attends all technical and dress rehearsals and programs the lighting console during these rehearsals, conducts dimmer and system checks (and troubleshoots if necessary) on performance days, fixes any issues with the lighting system included on JHRT performance reports, leads the staff electrician and student crew in the removal of lighting instruments at the end of each run at the JHRT, and attends all production meetings.
