Basic Function
The Talent Buyer/Booker contributes to developing and implementing a comprehensive and coherent program of popular presentations for the Center. This may include but is not limited to genres such as multicultural popular concerts, dance and jazz. Such programming may take the form of a regular series and/or annual patterns of presentation, recurrent or “one-off” festivals and occasional single events and may extend to the creative use of electronic media and other emerging technologies. Ongoing communication with other major performing arts centers, artist managements and commercial and not-for-profit partners will be a key aspect of this position.  The Talent Buyer/Booker will be responsible for working with local, national and international artists on events of different scales and scopes.  Throughout, the Talent Buyer/Booker will be expected to identify suitable product, develop and manage supporting budgets and facilitate selected shows from contract negotiation through settlement, as well as artist and production coordination and final presentation.
 
Responsibilities 
  • Work with the Vice President, Programming and Senior Director, Programming to create diverse programs for the Center that fulfill its mission and are financially sustainable.
  • Negotiate contracts for presentations with creative teams, agents, et al.
  • Direct and oversee programming show budgets.
  • Strengthen the institutional positioning of the Center in the South Florida region, nationally, and internationally, developing the reputation of the Center within the arts and wider communities, producing, and presenting organizations and creative talent.
  • Work with the entire Programming Department and other pertinent departments to plan and present varied programming.
  • Perform related and other duties as assigned by the Vice President, Programming and Senior Director, Programming.
Note: This position requires flexibility in scheduling the workday, as this position requires irregular hours and may require occasional travel.
 

Job Requirements:

Qualifications 
  • Extensive experience in contracting and working with performing artists, artist management, and project management.
  • Establish, build, and maintain positive relations with agents, managers, and industry representatives locally and nationally for booking possibilities.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the arts field with a focus on programming.
  • Strong administrative, negotiation and budgeting skills.
  • Proficient in both technology and finance.
  • Excellent written, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Adaptable, strategic, and organized thinking
  • A collaborative, team-oriented nature                  
  • Understanding of the resources at hand to facilitate the work.
  • Bilingual and multi-cultural familiarity.
  • Knowledge of multiple genres/disciplines within performing arts and entertainment with a strong understanding of acts that can play 200 – 2400 capacity venues.
  • Strong understanding of the role of Center as it relates to the local, national and international market.
  • Understanding of how to function effectively in a multi-ethnic work environment and community.
  • Working knowledge of marketing, advertising, and social media strategy
  • Knowledge of Tessitura and/or Artifax software is a plus
