Job Description:

Director of Finance
 
The Director of Finance is a dynamic and experienced member of MOCA’s team that plays a crucial role in overseeing all operational aspects of the museum’s finances. The Director is an expert in in database management, financial controls and best practices. The ideal candidate ensures compliance while fostering a culture of support and collaboration across departments. The Director participates in the short-and-long term financial planning of the organization and drives financial sustainability to support our mission.
 
 Essential Roles and Responsibilities
 
Financial Planning: Strategy & Budget
  • Develop, in collaboration with the Deputy Director, financial strategy to support the organization's goals and long-term sustainability.
  • Lead the preparation of the annual budget.
  • Oversee implementation of financial plans and annual budgets for each department.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance across departments and provide regular reports.
 Financial Reporting
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Provide regular updates for various internal and external stakeholders on all finance functions and activities.
Financial Operations: Accounting and Finance
  • Oversee all accounting and finance functions of the organization (including the 501(c)3 and the City of North Miami requirements).
  • Ensure all fiscal practices meet the highest standard of integrity and compliance.
  • Oversee and implement financial policies and procedures that maintain an effective internal control environment and oversee adherence to policies.
  • Continually work toward promotion of efficiency and effectiveness of all finance functions, via process and workflow improvements.
  • Provide accounting and financial related assistance to other departments, including participation in training staff on fiscal procedures and budget management as needed. 
  • Perform year-end accounting system close, including the production of 1099 forms.
  • Lead annual audit preparation and Form 990 submission.
  • Process payroll. 
  • Develop and maintain effective tools for managing grants, supporting grant budget preparation, tracking, and reporting.
 Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field. MBA or CPA preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant, progressive work experience, in the nonprofit sector.
  • Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Proficiency in financial software.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving financial sustainability and growth.
  • Ability to work well in a small, fast-paced, entrepreneurial team environment.
 Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business (or equivalent experience)
  • High-level experience using accounting software
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office Suite
     
Desired
  • Masters Degree or Certified Public Accountant Certification
  • Experience with Financial Edge NXT, EDEN, and Altru
     
This is a full-time, salaried position, with hours typically Monday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm. The position will require some early morning, late evening, and weekend hours as necessary due to museum events or other relevant meetings. While generally an in-person position, the museum does provide provisions for occasional hybrid work. A level 2 background check will be required upon the offer of employment.

Reports to: Deputy Director

Supervises: Finance Manager

Compensation: Salary starting at $85,000 including a competitive benefits package.
