Job Description:

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark and accredited museum in Miami, Florida (www.vizcaya.org). The Deputy Director for Advancement is Vizcaya’s senior fundraising professional and responsible for coordination and oversight of all fundraising activities, including donations, planned giving, grants, memberships, annual fund drives and fundraising events. The Deputy Director manages a team of four experienced, full-time professionals: Director of Corporate, Foundation and Government Relations; Director of Fundraising Events; Director of Membership; and Advancement Operations Manager. The position reports to the Executive Director/CEO.

Essential Functions
  • Creates and successfully executes a cohesive, innovative and strategic vision for all fundraising activities to support Vizcaya’s operating and capital needs.
  • Manages a portfolio of prospects and donors for major, planned and leadership annual gifts, moving relationships steadily through all phases of the giving cycle.
  • Works with Advancement team to plan and implement the framework for accomplishing fundraising goals in accordance with the strategic plan.
  • Helps to identify Board prospects and serves as principal staff liaison with the Board’s Development Committee.
  • Works with colleagues and the Board of Directors to significantly increase the organization’s annual operating and special project support from individuals (including Board Directors), corporations and foundations, with a personal focus on identifying, cultivating and soliciting major annual gifts.
  • Establishes and coordinates a cohesive corporate sponsorship program within the Advancement Department.
  • Works with colleagues and the Board to identify and cultivate $1 million-plus naming prospects for capital projects in the house, gardens and Vizcaya Village.
  • Evaluates capital campaign readiness and engages campaign consultant support as needed.  
  • Works with colleagues and the Board’s Government Relations Committee to support efforts to enhance government support.
  • Oversees departmental budgets/projections, and tracks contributed revenues in concert with team.
  • Develops policies to ensure accountability and transparency, including rigorous tracking of grants and donations and use of Altru constituent database by Advancement Department staff.
  • Works closely with other senior staff to determine strategic directions for institutional initiatives.

Education and Work Experience
  • Required: Bachelor's degree and at least ten years of progressively responsible management experience in non-profit fundraising/resource development, with a track record of raising major gifts.
  • Preferred: Master’s degree, knowledge of museums or cultural organizations, familiarity with the South Florida philanthropic and business community, experience with corporate sponsorships, experience raising major capital donations, Certified Fund Raising Executive credential. Bilingual English/Spanish.

Work Environment/Physical Demands
The majority of work is done in an office setting, with some portion involving interaction with donors and other constituents on and off site. Vizcaya is a non-smoking environment.
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Schedule
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt position. Evening and weekend work is periodically required.
