Miami Cancer Institute announces
Artist-in-Residence Fellowship

Seeking empathic artists who are ready to engage patients in the creative arts.

Miami Cancer Institute Arts in Medicine Program
The creative arts can improve the quality of life of cancer patients. The Miami Cancer Institue Arts in Medicine program will transform the cancer patient experience with the potential to impact over 200,000 patients, caregivers and visitors annually. The objective of this program are to engage patients in the creative arts, create a theraputic platform for self expression, reduce stress in a healing enviroment and improve health outcomes of cancer patients.

Artist-in-Residence Fellowship
The program is open to musicans and visual artists. The paid independent contractor position will requrie a on-year commitment of 20 hours per week on a flexible schedule, Monday through Friday at $38,460 per year.

Job Requirements:

The following includes a list of essential criteria for applicants of the Artist-in-Residence Fellowship program at Miami Cancer Institute.

  • Established professional artist in the community
  • Strong interpersonal skills with exceptional empathy, compassion and a profound ability to engage with patients and caregivers
  • Experience and comfort working with diverse population
  • Prior experience or vested interest in performing in healthcare setting
  • Three professional references in the field
  • Sample of artistic work (video/audio performance, portfolio)

The Fellowship will require the Artist-in-Residence to:

  • Facilitate creative art expression to enhance patient wellbeing
  • Participate in a 1-2 week online "Artist in Healthcare Setting" training program at UF Shands or University Settlement
  • Mentor graduate creative arts students in the healthcare setting
