Locust Projects is seeking PAID performers for mobile interactive art piece!
Performers needed! Raúl Romero, an artist based in Philadelphia, is seeking performers ages 18+ for an interactive performance work around Miami. The project explores how people in Miami connect back to their homeland, in the case of the artist, Puerto Rico, using sound. You can read more about the project here: http://locustprojects.org/exhibitions/art-on-the-move/onomonopoetics-of-a-latino-landscape.html
Performers will ride a converted cargo tricycle on a pre-mapped route. The tricycle has been converted to play audio recorded by the artist. Performers will make regular stops along their route to interact with the public (wearing masks and maintaining social distance, of course!), explaining the project as well as passing out print materials to encourage the public to participate by sending in their own recordings of their homeland memories.
Adult performers of any age and gender identity are encouraged to apply- no previous performance experience needed. You must be able to sit for extended periods of time, be able to lift 40 pounds, and be physically able to ride a bicycle for approximately 3 hours. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about contemporary art and must be comfortable and confident discussing the project and holding conversations with passersby.
Performers will be expected to attend a brief 30-minute orientation prior to their scheduled performance in order to acquaint themselves with the project, their route, and the mechanics of the tricycle. Orientations may be scheduled based on the performer’s availability Monday-Friday between 11am-5pm.
To apply, please send a brief introduction and resume to Jordyn Newsome, Gallery & Exhibitions Manager, at email@example.com. Please also direct any questions to firstname.lastname@example.org or 305.576.8570.
