Job Description:

Basic Function


The Public Relations Assistant provides support for the Communication/Public Relations Team and actively participates in the marketing and public relations activities of the Center. This is an exciting position for a dedicated, detail-oriented, hard-working person who is interested in the arts, desires a career in public relations and is enticed by the prospect of making an impact on the community for generations to come.




The following are examples of the various functions required. The job requirements are not limited to items on this list:


·         Provide support for the Center’s publicity initiatives, reporting directly to the Public Relations Director.

·         Write press materials, research performances, and maintain up-to-date press materials.

·         Respond to media requests for press materials, photography and video.

·         Coordinate logistics of media activities (performances, press conferences, special events, opening nights, etc.).

·         Manage photo shoots from start to completion, including securing necessary permissions, anticipating expenses, and managing crews on site.

·         Represent the Center’s public relations team on-site during events and performances on a regular basis.

·         Maintain a neat, organized and up-to-date archive of all articles about the Center. Create and maintain presentations of press coverage.

·         Maintain the Center’s photo and video archives.

·         Contribute to the creation of social media content, including copywriting, image selection and some basic video editing.

·         Liaise with various internal departments, outside agencies and members of the media, as needed.

·         Complete any special assignments or projects, as assigned.


Job Requirements:

Ideal Experience

·         Bachelors degree or higher in marketing, public relations, or communication.
·         Minimum two years of public relations experience.
·         Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Strong writing skills and ability to identify compelling, pressworthy images.
·         Familiarity with social media and basic video editing.  
·         Ability to attend performances, rehearsals, and other activities on evenings and weekends. This position requires flexibility in scheduling the workday as it requires irregular hours.
·         Strong interest in the arts.
·         Ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as to accept direction on given assignments.
·         Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook/Word/Excel and basic knowledge of photo/video editing software.
·         Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently coordinate multiple tasks.
·         Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Physical Demands 

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stop, reach, stand, walk, lift, pull, push, grasp, communicate, and use repetitive motions.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee may frequently lift and or move 20 pounds of materials.

  • The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from multiple people and interact with the public and other staff.
