Job Description:

Reporting to the Grants Development Director, the Grants Writer conducts prospect research, provides reports to funders, and composes grant applications.  This position collaborates with the Grants Development Director and other Development staff to assist the organization in achieving positive financial outcomes.   
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Grant Writing
  • Develop foundation, government, and corporate proposals for an assigned large portfolio of donors and prospects.
  • Assist the Grants Development Director to prepare all grant-related documents, including:  proposals, letters of inquiry, grant applications, and reports.
  • Conduct institutional research required to complete grant proposals.
  • Identify new potential donors using Foundation Center, iWave and other research tools.
  • Ensure donor benefits and grantee agreements are appropriately fulfilled.
  • Stay informed of new developments in the field.
Administrative Support
  • Support the Grants Development Director in the preparation of grant budgets in collaboration with the Finance department.
  • Accurately maintain the institutional recognition pages in performance program books and on the MCB website.
  • Support grants-related writing projects such as special correspondence with grantors, acknowledgement letters, individual donor proposals, and other development-related correspondence.
  • Utilize Tessitura (database) to track donor/prospect interactions.
  • Assist the Development team as needed.
 

 

Job Requirements:

Qualifications
 
  • Minimum of two years’ experience as a grant writer for a non-profit organization and a background in ballet, contemporary dance or the performing arts is preferred.
  • Proven ability to write clearly and succinctly, and in a way that appeals to the targeted audience.
  • Strong understanding of AP writing style.
  • Capable of working well under pressure and writing to deadlines.
  • Exceptional organizational and planning skills, including the ability to multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with Tessitura (database) is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively to achieve common goals.
  • Proven ability to work independently; strong self-motivation and effective time management skills.
  • Communicate effectively: speak, listen, and write clearly.
