Job Description:

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami enjoys a 30-year reputation as an important local, national, and international cultural voice. With an engaged board and professional leadership team, we are eyeing a period of growth that includes a revitalization of our home.
 
We are launching a search for a new Deputy Director who will be a partner to our Executive Director in driving the strategic direction of the organization. The Deputy Director has responsibility over operations including budget management, earned revenue, museum-wide policy setting, day to day operations, capital projects, contract vendor oversight, and long-range strategic financial planning for the organization. The Deputy is a critical member of our senior leadership team and plays a central role in nurturing an inclusive, positive, and equitable culture. 
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
 
Leadership
  • Closely collaborate with the Executive Director in supporting the work of the Board of Trustees, including serving as staff liaison to several key committees.
  • Oversee and coordinate efforts to monitor, implement, and refresh the museum’s strategic plan in collaboration with the senior leadership and Board of Trustees, and serve as staff liaison to the Strategic Planning Committee.
  • With Director of Finance, participate in the work of the Finance and Investment Committees of the Board of Trustees.
  • Provide leadership of the museum’s diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility efforts. 
  • Ensure that the museum follows best practices set forth by American Alliance of Museums (AAM) standards and leads the organization’s decennial process for reaccreditation by the AAM.
  • Lead the promulgation, implementation, and review of all museum policies and procedures.
Budgeting
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Finance, oversee the annual budgeting process, including modeling earned revenue opportunities and use data to develop forecast models and project annual attendance and revenue targets.
Operations 
  • Oversee and coordinate interdepartmental efforts to strengthen the financial, administrative, and physical infrastructure that supports the museum’s current operations.
  • Recruit and oversee outsourced vendors for day-to-day management of human resources activities. Ensure that the organization maintains human resources policies and procedures that support a positive, equitable, and inclusive employee experience; oversee compensation structure and annual compensation reviews in close collaboration with the Executive Director. 
  • Recruit and oversee outsourced vendors for day-to-day management of the museums IT infrastructure and help desk services.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of capital projects to revitalize the museum’s building, in coordination with City of North Miami, which owns the building.
  • Provide leadership of functional areas of guest experience, security, facilities. 

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven ability to identify opportunities for improved efficiencies through the implementation of best practices. 
  • The ability to understand and interpret data to effectively provide financial analysis and advice.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple high-level projects at one time.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, as well as professional interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a small, fast-paced, entrepreneurial team environment.
  • Experience working in the arts, culture, and/or nonprofit sector strongly preferred.
 
REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, public or nonprofit administration, or another related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience in nonprofit administration with progressively increased levels of responsibility.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and fundraising databases, or similar systems. 
DESIRED
  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish or Haitian Creole. 

This is a full-time, salaried position, with hours typically Monday-Friday 9:30am-5:30pm. The position will require some early morning, late evening and weekend hours as necessary due to museum events or other relevant meetings. While generally an in-person position, the museum does provide provisions for occasional hybrid work. A level 2 background check will be required upon the offer of employment.
 
Reports to: Executive Director

Supervises: Guest Experience and Operations Manager, Building Manager, with dotted line reporting of the Director of Finance.

Compensation: Salary starting at $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience with an excellent benefits package.
