Job Description:

MOCA Guest Experience Associates are key members of the museum’s front of house team. They are responsible for delivering outstanding customer service and being positive representatives of MOCA at all times. Guest Experience Associates report directly to the Guest Experience Manager.

Major Areas of Responsibility
Front Desk
  • Perform general reception duties, greeting the public, special guests, members, and groups in a cheerful, positive manner at all times.
  • Process cash and credit card transactions for admissions, merchandise sales, program and membership fees, through the museum’s point of sale systems (Altru) with accuracy.  
  • Provide accurate, up to date information about MOCA, exhibitions, programs, and services, both in person and over the telephone.
  • Capture accurate statistical, marketing, and membership data, including zip codes and email addresses, and issue reports to senior management.
  • Inform guests of the museum’s guidelines and enforce them when necessary.
  • Help to secure the art work by restricting umbrellas, backpacks and other larger items from entering the galleries
  • Answer general phone inquiries and/or transfer callers to the appropriate staff member. Take and distribute messages as needed.  
  • Assist with Shop merchandise projects such as tagging, labeling, and restocking
  • Restock frontline desk materials and maintain organized workspaces
In Gallery:
  • Warmly greet guests entering the assigned exhibition space while verifying their paid admission.
  • Offer information about the artworks and artists
  • Monitor all activity within the assigned gallery area to prevent any potential damage to the artwork.
  • Politely but firmly remind guests that the art works should not be touched unless the work has an interactive component designed by the artist. If the piece is interactive advise/demonstrate the means of interaction or alternative views of work.
  • Holds responsibility for the appearance of gallery, reporting any discrepancies to the Guest Experience Manager, such as but not limited to: lights, artwork, electronics, and any building needs.
  • Kindly enforce gallery guidelines such as photography rules, food and drink restrictions, etc.
  • Seek assistance from security if a problem escalates beyond training.
  • Attend training sessions for curatorial information regarding the works on display and the exhibition concepts defined by the artists, as well as content training with Curator of Education and/or education staff.
General:
  • Provide general support cross departmentally for MOCA public programs and special events.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of MOCA’s programs and membership benefits and actively communicate opportunities for further engagement to guests.
  • Participate in the museum’s safety and emergency plan trainings held for staff and volunteers.  
  • Assist with other duties as required and assigned by the Guest Experience Manager.

Job Requirements:

Qualifications
  • Positive team player with excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work under general direction.
  • Ability to process information accurately and within a deadline.
  • Aptitude for performing work requiring close attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and to change priorities on short or little notice.
  • Experience in a customer facing role.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Desired
  • Fluency in Haitian Creole and/or Spanish.
  • Experience in cash handling with knowledge of Point of Sale systems.
  • Interest in art and/or museums.

Terms: This is a part-time, hourly position, not to exceed 29 hours a week. Weekend availability is required with some evening duties as needed. A level 2 background check will be required upon offer of employment.
