Job Description:

Basic Function
Under the Director, Production, the Production Manager has primary responsibility for the orchestration of all Arsht Center departments and outside contractors to successfully realize, launch, a report on special events, shows, and other organization-wide events. These duties may include scheduling, budgeting, contracting, and execution of all aspects of physical production including, but not limited to: scenery, lights, costumes, props, paint, sound, and projections for all productions, workshops, readings, rentals, and events at the Arsht Center. The Production Manager may also have occasion to act as Technical Director for live performances and events, including the advancement upcoming performances of such events and directing technical staff associated.
  • In collaboration with the Programming Department,
    • Contributes to the development, and preparation of the upcoming seasonal production budgets/calendars, as it pertains to production requirements, for all Arsht Center venues (rentals, special events, resident company productions, co-productions, and Arsht presented programming);
    • Review of artist’s agreements, with respect to production needs;
    • Assist with bidding/booking process through budgeting, scheduling and resolving technical challenges associated with staging a given production.
  • Has primary responsibility in assigning shows to Technical Directors, consulting with the Director of Production, as needed;
  • Has primary responsibility for management of team workloads, goals, deadlines, and performance evaluation of all Production team members;
  • For produced events, supervise and administer the production elements with support to the creative teams vision and goals, with internal/external clients, vendors, designers, artists, and all other production related elements to clarify and resolve all technical and affiliated financial challenges;
  • Work with the design/production team to assist with guidance through the creative process with a primary focus on scope, schedule and budget to guarantee the timely completion of all show related elements. With the input and guidance of the affiliated designers and technical staff, determine that all designs (approved by the producer and show director) are feasible, including technical elements, schedule and established budget guidelines;
  • Assists with hiring (contracting when necessary), supervising and sourcing all human and material resources; including, but not limited to: Designers, Technical Staff, Stage Managers, rentals, purchases, and any additional personnel/materials required for specific production needs; develop and administer production calendars, creating timelines for work completion, and overseeing all scheduling of required staff;
  • Advances all production elements for assigned shows and events;
  • Submits all pre-, run and post-show paperwork for assigned engagements;
  • Organizes/ leads agenda-driven seasonal, design and individual production meetings with Arsht Center Staff, Creatives and Stage Management;
  • Determines load-in, technical and dress rehearsal, run and strike schedules for all programming as necessary, either as the primary contributor or monitoring the Technical Directors when necessary;
  • Facilitate clear communications throughout the production process and act as a liaison between Producers, Directors, Designers, Stage Managers, Visiting Production personnel and Arsht Center staff;
  • Supervises and gives clear feedback of the work of Production crew members and House Heads through documented performance evaluations and Show Reports;
  • Assists other members of the Production Department, as necessary;
  • Represents the Director, Production as needed;
  • Conducts ongoing evaluations of Production Department systems, policies and procedures; tracks inventories and recommends upgrades for substantial equipment;
  • Performs related and other duties as assigned.
Note: This position requires flexibility in the workday, as it calls for both a theater production and administrative schedule.
Required Qualifications:  
  • A comprehensive knowledge of technical theater with at least 5 or more years of experience;
  • Strong supervisory skills;
  • Effective teamwork and problem-solving skills;
  • Knowledge of theater safety standards and codes;
  • Ability to motivate, manage and coordinate staff members of varying skill levels;
  • Astute attention to detail with the ability to multi-task;
  • Developed administrative, negotiation and budgetary skills;
  • Fully computer literate;
  • AutoCAD and/or VectorWorks knowledge is required, proficiency is highly valued;
  • Background in multiple areas of theatrical production;
  • Extensive experience in working with performing artists, presenters and producers;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop and maintain long term relationships with our internal and external partners/stakeholders;
  • Physical ability to use catwalks and to lift 50 lbs.;
  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Theater or related field.

Physical Demands
