About Bakehouse Art Complex
 
Founded in 1985 by artists and for artists in a former industrial Art Deco-era bakery, the Bakehouse, a non-profit organization located in the Wynwood Norte neighborhood of Miami, is comprised of approximately 100 resident and associate artists, deriving from a rich diversity of backgrounds. Their work represents a broad range of media and practices, from painting to performance, from traditional to experimental.
 
Bakehouse is one of the oldest artist-serving organizations in Miami, with studios of varying sizes, two galleries, a classroom, print room, photography lab, ceramics facilities, and woodworking, and welding areas.
 
Position Summary
 
Bakehouse Art Complex is seeking a part-time Programs Assistant, starting at 20/hours a week, with a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends. The ideal candidate is flexible, committed, and interested in working in a not-for-profit arts organization. The Programs Assistant provides essential support for the organization’s day to day operations and logistics, with a primary focus on the successful execution of public programs and special events.
 
The Programs Assistant supports the Assistant Director of Programs and Community Engagement with administrative tasks related to the studio residency and associate membership programs, as well as the implementation and execution of public programs and exhibitions. The Programs Assistant also supports the Grants + Communications Manager with social media and press needs.
 
Essential duties and responsibilities
 
Program/Curatorial

  • Assist with maintenance and upkeep of active artist files and contact lists
  • Assist with operational aspects of on-site and virtual programming, including but not limited to, preparing collateral, assisting with check-in, assisting with guest experience during events, coordinating set-up and break down (i.e. A/V set up), and acting as point person for logistical requests
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating on-site group tours and walkthroughs
  • Draft event and program listings on Eventbrite and organization’s website
  • Keep attendance records and input data into constituent database
  • Attend to daily walk-ins and visitor requests

Communications

  • ‚ÄčAssist with drafting content for the monthly newsletter
  • Assist with developing a regular social media content schedule, utilizing best practices
  • Update events listing and artist pages on the website; general website maintenance
  • Help compile artist news and other materials to update annual artist achievements listing
  • Copy edit texts for the website, as needed
Special Events
  • Assist with logistics (i.e. coordinating with vendors, submitting payment requests/invoices to process, updating guest list)

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, art history or related field
  • 1 – 2 years of experience working in an administrative capacity
  • 1 – 2 years of experience in an art museum, gallery, arts non-profit organization, or arts production 
Qualifications
  • Understanding of Bakehouse Art Complex’s mission and organizational objectives
  • Team-oriented and comfortable relating to others
  • Strong critical thinking and technical skills; knowledge of how to use A/V equipment preferred
  • Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Suites and social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram
  • Website and/or graphic design experience preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and organize multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills
  • Cultural competency skills and experience with diverse communities
  • Preference for bilingual Spanish and/or Creole
  • Occasionally be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds
