Job Description:

Basic Function
The Director of Security & Public Safety will be the authority, as it pertains to the safety and security of the Arsht Center’s Staff, Visitors, Patrons, and Property.  It is the responsibility of this position to establish, maintain and evolve, the security protocols of the Center to meet the highest and most current standards. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, risk identification and evaluation, claims management, conducting and organizing safety training, review background checks if necessary, maintain claim loss statistics.  Manage security & safety team members and will be the primary contact with City and County services (including but not limited to Police, Fire, EMT, Traffic, etc.,). This position will also serve, along with the Senor Director of Operations, as co-chair for the Center’s monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
Due to the nature of the industry, hours of operations call for this position to maintain a flexible schedule that will require them to be available and on-site for both daytime and evening hours. The Director of Security will have under their supervision a full-time (24/7) security contractor. It is the responsibility of the Director to manage this contract to achieve optimum results while maintaining to budgets.
  • Be the point person for all Security related matters at the Arsht Center.
  • Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs and evaluates the public safety and security needs for the Arsht Center campus.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to enhance safety and security operations through continuous evaluation and improvement.
  • Establishes the appropriate levels of security and ensures that all applicable protocols are being enforced.
  • Remains current on issues regarding changes to technology, laws, ordinances, rules and/or procedures related to best practices in the public safety industry.
  • Responds to and/or assists subordinates in responding to emergency calls for service and acts as the Incident Commander when applicable.
  • Prepares and monitors the security capital and operating budgets and forecasts needs and ensures compliance with organizational expenditures.
  • Engages in and is responsible for all emergency preparedness efforts, directing the entire security department and the Arsht Center staff in the creation, training and exercise of emergency and life safety plans, procedures and protocols.
  • Establishes and maintains partnerships with neighboring properties and emergency first responders with the Federal, State, County and City agencies.
  • Develops and enforces a schedule of inspection to ensure that all life safety and medical equipment is inspected in accordance with professional guidelines and applicable laws and ordinances.
  • Directs the inspection of the premises to test alarm systems, detect safety hazards, and to ensure that safety rules are posted and enforced.
  • Conducts threat/risk assessments of the campus to determine the vulnerabilities.
  • Maintain thorough working knowledge of all front and back of house functions and protocols of the Arsht Center.
  • Trains, supervises and develops all onsite security officers.
  • Manage all aspects of the Allied Universal Security contract, especially as it pertains to post orders, appropriate staffing numbers, scheduling and budget.
  • Maintain highest customer service standards as well as professional appearance and demeanor for all security staff.
  • Serve as liaison to City, County, State and Federal Law Enforcement, as needed.
  • Serve as liaison to visiting security, when required.
  • Serve as special protection detail when required.
  • Allocate sufficient time to both administrative office hours and performance schedules. 
  • Enforce security policies and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date on security trends and best practices.
  • Monitor all related governmental agencies to anticipate potential disruptions to business due to specific or non-specific threats.
  • Manage the Center’s Emergency Response Plan as it pertains to updates and implementation.
  • Manage key assignments and inventory.
  • Oversee master inventory of staff ID badges and keys.
  • Maintain proficiency operating security camera software.
  • Assist in scheduling and conducting regular emergency evacuation drills and other safety/security related exercises.
  • Anticipate new potential threats and prepare accordingly.
  • Complete all required certifications as assigned regarding life safety, crowd management, evacuation and ADA.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

Ideal Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Extensive and proven law enforcement or military experience
  • Experience with live entertainment venues. Performing arts or cultural institutions desirable
  • Managing personnel and budgets

  • The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from multiple people and interact with the public and other staff.
