Position Summary:

ICA Miami is seeking an inspiring Adaptive Arts Teacher (AAT) to work with our family program series Family Sundays and Family Day events.  Family Sundays is a free, weekly program that welcomes children of all abilities to engage in artmaking, storytelling, movement, and other activities that connect children to the museum’s artists and exhibitions. Our goal is to connect younger audiences and children with disabilities and/or with autism and related disorders to exhibitions and artists with programming that makes contemporary art accessible. 
 
Family Day events are offered quarterly and reach a large and diverse audience with the goal of raising awareness of ICA’s education programs.
 
This position requires the ability to create adaptive art lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with disabilities. Responsibilities include planning and producing a collaborative approach to supporting student learning and engaging children of all abilities with ICA Miami’s exhibitions.
 
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following main focus areas:

• Plans and implements the elements of an effective art making activities and develops lesson plans, which incorporate fine motor skills, and adaptive instruction aids appropriate for instruction for ICA Miami’s Family Sundays program.
• Assists with the development and implementation of activities for ICA Miami’s Family Day Events.
• Establishes and (as necessary) adjusts ICA’s online learning courses.
• Provides an atmosphere where students can fulfill their potential for artistic and creative growth.
• Designs activities that provide opportunities for creativity relation to current exhibitions.
• Maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment

Education, Qualifications, Competences, Skills Required

• Bachelor’s Degree in fine arts, arts education or related field
• 2-3 years’ successful teaching experience in adaptive arts preferred.
• Demonstrate knowledge of both Special Education and Art Standards.
• Demonstrate awareness and respect for diversity of cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.
• Experience in the use of educational technology and integrating arts into the classroom.
• Demonstrates responsibility for self-growth, professional improvement, ongoing self-reflection, or self-evaluation.
• Excellent oral and written communication and human relation skills.
• Collaborative approach to teaching and curriculum development.
• Experience overseeing team members and delegating tasks as needed.
