Job Description:

The Exhibition and Curatorial Project Manager provides essential support to the planning, organization and project management of exhibitions and curatorial projects at The Bass.
Reporting to the Curator, the Exhibition and Curatorial Project Manager’s major responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the curatorial and collections team by managing the technical development of upcoming exhibitions and off-site projects
  • Managing the planning and logistics for exhibitions, including installation/de-installation, permitting, production, sourcing of materials and equipment, and hiring of art handlers and specialized contractors
  • Serve as primary liaison with artists for all technical and production aspects of exhibition, as well as booking travel and managing install calendars
  • Overseeing administration of departmental budget, including forecasting exhibition budgets, tracking expenses, and processing invoices and credit card charges in Financial Edge NXT
  • Creating, maintaining, and distributing accurate exhibition files, renderings, floorplans, and checklists
  • Assisting Registrar with shipping coordination and loan coordination
  • Managing equipment rentals, scheduling and managing of preparators and specialized contractors for exhibitions
  • Assisting Curator and Registrar in the planning and maintenance of exhibition schedules and timelines
Other duties may include:
  • Assisting with Registrar with condition reporting and gallery maintenance
  • Working with Registrar to train GSA’s, guards, and appropriate staff on exhibition opening/closing procedures
  • Obtaining proper permissions for image reproductions for exhibitions
  • Obtaining information from artists or lenders to prepare labels for temporary and collection exhibitions
  • Preparing, proofread, and edit a variety of documents for accuracy, proper formatting, and grammar
  • Preparing materials for exhibition-related meetings and interdepartmental meetings
  • Assisting Registrar with collections management and maintenance of collection storage

Job Requirements:

Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Familiarity and enthusiastic interest in contemporary art
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Strong organizational, planning and research skills
  • Ability to work independently and self-directed, exercise creative problem-solving, initiative and good judgment to successfully organize and complete assignments
  • Detail-oriented, meticulous, and conscientious in following through on assigned tasks
  • Proficiency with planning tools, spreadsheet programs, architectural rendering programs, and basic knowledge of graphic and web design programs
  • Knowledge of diverse material fabrication and construction techniques
  • Proficiency with technical equipment, such as A/V systems
  • Knowledge of condition reporting and collection care methods and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, artists, visitors, and community members
Desired skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills in Spanish
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., art history, studio art, etc.)
  • At least 3 years of work experience in a comparable field such as a gallery, museum, arts non-profit, private collection, etc
  • Working knowledge of collections management systems
