Job Description:

Miami New Drama (MiND) at the Colony Theatre is seeking a House Manager to become a valued member of the theater management team. 

 

Scope of Work:

All items are executed with the oversight and direction of the General Manager & Managing Director. Works in close collaboration with the Box Office Manager.

 

House Manager Responsibilities:

  • Launch a volunteer program to assist with front of house and company management needs and engage the community

    • Train, schedule and manage volunteers on front of house policy, procedures, supplies and workflows.

  • Oversee hiring and scheduling of a core team of ushers and front of house staff including tracking hours and submitting payroll in a timely manner

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for escalated customer service issues and service recovery during performances.

  • Order, manage sales, and maintain merchandise and any concession products as needed

  • Follow up with customers based on pre- and post-show survey results in consultation with management.

  • Coordinates performance timelines with stage management, including talkbacks, curtain speeches, and intermission and other accessibility services.

  • Maintain ticket-scanning equipment, hearing impaired devices, and walkie-talkies for communicating with stage manager.

  • Manages all pre-show activities including Playbill/program distribution, pre-show walk-throughs to ensure chamber cleanliness and accessibility and ensure appropriate volunteer and staffing levels for every performance.

  • Assist with community engagement and group sales efforts

  • Complete house reports after each performance.

  • Provides leadership in emergency situations, including fire alarm and inclement weather warnings.

  • Coordinate with management to ensure all accessibility requirements are followed

  • Serve as COVID Safety Manager for Front of House team

  • Coordinate with management for Opening Night and special event needs

Job Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in written and conversational English and Spanish is required.

  • A minimum of 2 years’ work experience in ticket sales, front of house, theatre, and/or customer service is preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy is a plus.

  • Strong leadership that inspires a high level of work ethic, positive attitude, and collaboration is a plus.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

  • Superior experience using G Suite 

  • Strong presentation skills in a public setting; excellent oral and written communication skills is a plus.

  • Ability and passion to work inclusively with all ages and diverse populations.

  • Experience in conflict resolution and creating a collaborative work environment.

  • Able to manage multiple deadline-oriented assignments and projects at any given time. 

  • Works effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member.

  • Self-direction and high motivation is a plus.

  • Must have reliable transportation; a valid driver’s license is required.

  • Most nights and weekend work is required.

  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds is required.

 

Pay & Hours:

$20/hr - 30 hours weekly guaranteed, overtime available

 

Availability:

  • in office - may increase based on level of activity in the season, additional hours remotely
    Approx 35 hours per week average.
