Job Description:

SUMMARY:

The Outreach and Field Trip Manager will work under the supervision of the Director of Educational Programs and has direct oversight of programs focused on serving audiences both on and off site through programs that align with shared missions and areas of museum focus in addition to establishing new programmatic revenue streams. Examples include (but are not limited to): Scouting partnerships, overnight programs, connections with community organizations, aligning community partners with established program offerings, and development of new programs. Additionally, the Outreach and Field Trip Manager will aid with the development and lead the implementation of a strategy for reservations for outreach, field trips, and other educational programs. The Outreach and Field Trip Manager will directly supervise the Reservations team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to the established policies and procedures of the Museum.
  • Work with the Director of Educational Programs to develop and implement both current and new models of innovative programming serving diverse audiences of community partners to develop new streams of revenue and/or new strategic partnerships.
  • Aid with the development and lead the implementation of a strategy to maximize reservations for outreach, field trips, and other educational programs.
  • Work towards defined revenue goals for outreach, field trips, and other educational programs.
  • Monitor all programming for fiscal stability and maximize program revenue generation.
  • Monitor program budgets to ensure efficient use of resources; generate proposed budgets for new revenue generating programs.
  • Work cohesively across museum departments to develop programming and efficiently manage use of resources.
  • Serve as a conduit between the museum and community partners/schools.
  • Provide direct staff management of Reservations team members including staffing oversight of performance assessment, scheduling, and mentorship.
  • Ensures supplies are ordered, properly organized, and on-hand for program delivery.
  • Work with the Director of Educational Programs to track numbers served and program outcomes to support accountability measures.
  • Maintains excellent customer service by maintaining a positive and friendly attitude and through guest interactions by answering questions related to exhibit content, show times, directions, and other general information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business, Marketing, or another science related field. Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in sales and/or marketing revenue generating programs/products.
  • At least 1-2 years in educational program development and delivery in an informal education setting (outreach or otherwise) with a portion of that dedicated to program development and/or community relationships.
  • At least 1 year of experience supervising a staff of two or more.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  1. Ability to manage entry level staff, including schedule management, performance assessment, and training.
  2. Ability to develop educational programs with emphasis on learning through active, inquiry-based exploration.
  3. Ability to think strategically and executive plans to meet revenue goals.
  4. Experience working with children, youth and families of diverse backgrounds and income levels.
  5. Comfort working within unfamiliar environments; ability to initiate connection and build new relationships with stakeholders.
  6. Knowledge of the communities of Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Broward and successful methods of working with the diverse audiences within these communities.
  7. Ability to present oneself as an ambassador for Frost Science.
  8. Ability to successfully set and manage budgets, including report generation.
  9. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously.
  10. Able to work both collaboratively across departments as well as independently to achieve programmatic benchmarks.
  11. Comfort with exploring new models of engagement, new technologies, and unique programming models.
  12. Able to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively share information across and between multiple disciplines and reach audiences with varied technical and organizational knowledge.
  13. Bilingual is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those as employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Work will include time within an open office area, on the floor leading and participating in programs, and within the local community. Occasional exposure to outdoor activities may be requested. Weekend and evening work in alignment with programs is sometimes required. Staying overnight at the museum in alignment with the Overnight Adventures program is required on select nights.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Level 2 background clearance as defined by Miami-Dade County Public Schools.
  • Drug screening as part of the Drug Free Workplace Program.
