Job Description:

SUMMARY:

The Manager of Exhibit Maintenance oversees a team responsible for the maintenance of the Museum’s exhibits.  Responsibilities will include the appropriate scheduling of staff to ensure ongoing and preventive maintenance to exhibits is performed on a timely basis, while ensuring all safety guidelines and regulations are followed by staff.  Also oversees contractors and volunteers as required.  Incumbent works independently with minimal supervision.
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  •  Must adhere to the museum’s policies, best practices, and procedures.
  •  Ensure appropriate scheduling of staff. Produce a detailed schedule that highlights the staffing assignments for upcoming exhibit projects and tasks.
  •  Work with operations team and update exhibits calendar with facility-wide events and operational experiences to staff accordingly.
  • Perform a variety of administrative functions, including reviewing staff time cards to ensure accuracy and staff adherence to scheduling and overtime guidelines.
  •  Ensure all pertinent staff documents and training materials are updated as necessary.
  •  Coordinate training and schedules for exhibit staff and volunteers.
  •  Perform regular quality control evaluations on exhibit maintenance operations.
  •  Give direct and significant creative input to the exhibit development and design team for future projects and remediations. 
  •  Oversee the proper start-up and/or shut down of all exhibits and halls on a daily basis.
  •  Perform rounds and accurately document which exhibits are operational, partially-operational, off the floor and inoperative in the galleries.
  • Coordinate traveling exhibition logistics and oversees contract labor for incoming traveling exhibitions.
  •  Take a proactive role with the maintenance team to identify problems and repair (in a timely manner) all mechanical and electrical exhibit components. Coordinate the repair of components that cannot be repaired in-house or with current resources.
  •  Assist in unloading, set up, takedown and loading of temporary and permanent exhibits.
  •  Coordinate and delegate tasks with the traveling exhibits crew to ensure safe and timely load-in and load-out.
  •  Lead by example - maintain a clean, safe work environment by demonstrating a thorough knowledge of tools and equipment; follow proper safety procedures associated with each tool equipment/material.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

DESIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

High school diploma or equivalent required and a minimum of three (3) years of similar experience at a cultural institution or public-facing attraction required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated success with quality control.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and strong organizational skills.
  • Able to problem solve with flexibility and demonstrate good judgment in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Must possess excellent hand/eye coordination, as well as close vision.
  • Must be able to read, understand, interpret, and comment on plans, workflow diagrams/schedule, and construction drawings.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required and as work dictates.
  • Oral and written fluency in English is required for the position; bilingual fluency in Spanish is preferred.

  • Heavy physical activity performing strenuous daily activities of a technical nature. Work is normally performed in both interior and exterior environments.
