Job Description:

SUMMARY: The Vice President of Marketing is responsible for implementing the museum’s overall marketing and communications strategy, in addition to coordinating event logistics for museum special events and programming, negotiating sponsorships and promotional opportunities, and managing high-impact communications activities such as liaising with media and marketing consultants. Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Administration & General Counsel, and working closely with the Advancement and Education departments, the position will also work to enhance the museum’s community outreach presence and help to plan, promote and deliver a wide and frequent offering of special events to the general public. This position also works with the Board of Trustees, Museum President and senior executive team to establish organizational vision and impact.

ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the marketing team, including a PR & Marketing Manager, Marketing Specialist and two graphic designers
  • Builds and enhances the museum brand, exhibitions and events
  • Defines, implements and manages the museum’s marketing strategy
  • Creates and manages overall email communications schedule
  • Crafts messaging and positioning in the marketing, including conducting competitive market analysis
  • Leverages and builds relationships with key media, stakeholders and partners in the market
  • Serves as spokesperson for museum for related museum news and events, including dealing with issue and reputation management
  • Manages the digital marketing efforts of the museum, including creative digital campaigns and social media, and the advertising/media buying
  • Establishes goals and creates strategy for meeting marketing deliverables and metrics
  • Coordinates the production of monthly newsletters and all external digital communication
  • Creates event webpages for major museum events/posts events to internal and public calendars
  • Prepares monthly reports on all marketing programs and initiatives
  • Seeks out potential partners and sponsorships for events
  • Reaches out to local companies for giveaways, prizes and promotional material
  • Coordinates calendar and logistics with Guest Experience and Education staff to ensure excellence in executing events, aiming for complete customer satisfaction
  • Provides finance with all required documentation such as contract, invoices, monthly tracking reports
  • Performs other related tasks as may be assigned
  • Will work weekends and non-traditional hours as required


Job Requirements:


Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in Marketing, PR or related field and at least five years of comparable experience required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Must be able to work in a team as well as be able to work independently and be self-motivated
  2. Ability to prioritize, and manage multiple projects and timelines
  3. Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to create concise reports and budgets.
  4. Adaptability and creativity
  5. Excellent interpersonal and negotiating skills
  6. Must be extremely organized and diligent
  7. Requires exacting attention to detail and excellent customer service whether in person or by other communication, including written and telephone
  8. Excellence in English language (oral and written) required; preference for bilingual (Eng/Span)
  9. Must be able to work some evenings and weekends
  10. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and Excel; some experience in Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
