Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY
The Associate Director, Media & Content is our resident storyteller and is responsible for all media relations, communications and content strategy for the Miami City Ballet through traditional media, social media, website and publications on a local, national, and international level in accordance with the organization’s strategic goals. This position provides direction, oversight and implementation of branded and editorial content, and is instrumental in strategizing, capturing, prioritizing and disseminating the many stories of the Miami City Ballet. The Director, Communications & Content takes a holistic view of the organization in forming an overall, institutional content strategy that seeks to more deeply engage audiences across our three markets (West Palm Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami), and to continue to build our national and international reputation as a preeminent dance company.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
Content Strategy and Production
  • Provide strategic editorial direction and oversight of digital and physical consumer-facing content produced by the Miami City Ballet, including branded and editorial videos, the website, program books, and any other major print and digital media projects
  • Develop an institutional content marketing plan; create and/or guide internal teams to create content for wide-ranging campaigns on social media and web for dance productions, the MCB School, community engagement and special projects
  • Oversee video and audio production, as it pertains to content development and public relations, with internal and external partners/vendors
  • Build and oversee content library of short and long-form copy and video that can be used across key media channels (paid, earned and owned)
  • Work with internal and external content producers to develop on-brand materials focused on marketing objectives and other institutional priorities
  • Organize and conduct interviews with the artistic team, resident and visiting artists and other relevant subjects for text based, audio and video content.
  • Oversee management, production and delivery of MCB house programs, crafting content strategy, editorial calendar, and content development in alignment with institutional messaging and audience acquisition goals, ensuring a high-quality, engaging and educational product.
 
 
Media Relations
  • Develop and implement short and long-range plans for comprehensive and effective publicity and media communications initiatives that align with department and institutional goals.
  • With knowledge of dance and performing arts industry press, proactively expand contact base and cultivate relationships with key local, national and international dance and arts critics, writers, editors, bloggers, influencers and broadcast journalists to maximize multi-channel media coverage and heighten overall visibility of the brand. Actively pitch stories based on strategic season plan and fulfill incoming media requests as needed.
  • Reinforce organizational best practice for PR and communication policies – both internal and external.
  • Supervise all PR/photography/videography activities and provide input on upcoming needs.
  • Draft institutional press releases, spokesperson remarks, media newsletters, and messaging; review select institutional material for clarity, message consistency, and to catch errors.
  • Oversee external PR vendor as needed
 
Social Media & Website
  • Develop an institutional communications and content strategy for MCB’s social media channels
  • Manage MCB social media channels to support the institutional narrative while achieving marketing and sales objectives, by creating organic content that engages, entertains and educates audiences
  • Research, strategize, execute and evaluate campaigns to engage with known and new audiences using current and emerging social trends
  • Collaborate with other team members to capture content, develop a social calendar and posting protocol. Work directly with Marketing Assistant and Content Coordinator to handle posting.
  • Oversee MCB website strategy, manage institution-wide content and updates with Web Services firm, and develop a process for continuous enhancement in order to stay relevant
  • Collaborate with Marketing team to reflect sales strategy online and track website performance
 
Copywriting & Editorial
  • In collaboration with CMO, produce editorial for MCB’s institutional publications including the annual report
  • Supervise all PR-related photography, manage related budget and provide input on upcoming needs.
  • Ensure that the voice of the MCB is consistent and maintains overall brand integrity
  • Ensure that all copy created reflects brand strategy, provides institutional knowledge, and resonates with the intended target audience
  • Create and project manage delivery of MCB house programs, acting as the liaison between marketing, comms and external vendors

Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA, BS in Marketing, Communications or related field
  • 8-10 years minimum proven experience producing strategic, content-driven communication materials
  • 3 years minimum experience working and developing relationships with local, national and international news media
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with social media and trends
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically about the institutional narrative and audience engagement
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Proven editorial and narrative skills with the ability to align messaging across multiple channels and platforms 
  • Strong content portfolio demonstrating the ability to cover a wide range of arts, arts education and community-oriented subjects
  • Must be detail-oriented with strong time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Has a proven ability to lead teams and manage consultants/freelancers
  • Strong knowledge of dance and performing arts preferred
