Job Description:

MOCA Educators conduct classes in the MOCA Teen Art Force, the free weekly studio art courses in the Pavilion Studio. The Teen Art Force sessions for the 2019-2020 school year are as follows, excluding any legal holidays.
 
Session 1 (Fall) - October 1st-Dec 6th
Session 2 (Winter) - January 6th- March 20th 
Session 3 (Spring) - March 30th- May 29th
 
The MOCA Educator position is responsible for curriculum development and implementation within their assigned classes. They are also responsible for classroom attendance and reports to be sent back to the Curator of Education, with the help of the Studio Assistant and Education Programs Coordinator. They are considered independent contractors and community liaisons, and are welcome to attend any fieldtrips with the museum. For this particular opportunity we are seeking individuals with an understanding of sculpture, assemblage, collage, and 3D design. 
 
Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned after-school teen program classes and/or other MOCA programs per interest.
  • Develop curriculum with assistance and oversight from curator of education
  • Administer evaluations for assigned teen program classes
  • Be familiar with MOCA programming including current exhibitions and events
  • Register any new students for teen afterschool program 
  • Assist with the supervision of the teen Art Force
  • Meet with new students to teen after-school program to review rules of program
  • Coordinate with Curator of Education all supplies needed for classes
  • Coordinate with Studio Assistant and MOCA Interns for the student Pop-Up Shop & Showcases held on the final day of each session.
  • Aid in maintaining supply inventory
  • Submit any necessary supply order in an appropriate amount of time to Curator of Education using provided format

Job Requirements:

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Fine Arts, Art Education or equivalent experience.
  • At least one year of teaching experience 
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish, English/Creole) applicants highly desired, but not required
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and a laptop computer to bring to the office in order to complete tasks
  • Strong communication, organizational and writing skills (a writing sample will be required)
  • Ability to work independently and meet directives given by Curator of Education
  • Ability to convey a professional appearance and attitude 
  • Flexibility and ability to improvise.
  • Fingerprint clearance required.
 
Terms of Employment
MOCA Educators are hired on a yearly contractor basis and paid $150 per class taught, and must commit to the entire run of the 2019-2020 Teen Art Force run (with exceptions  for legal holidays or emergencies). Educators are expected to submit in writing their interest and commitment for their upcoming programs and fill out the Independent Contractor Agreement.
