Job Description:

The Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami is looking for Art Camp Educators to implement and support our seasonal camp initiatives, including our MOCA Summer Arts Camp sessions beginning on June 10th- August 17th, 2019. Each session includes 2 weeks of instruction in Visual and Design Arts. The instructor will lead day camps at the Museum for children ages 6-13. Art Camp Educators report directly to the Curator of Education.
  • Implement creative and engaging curriculum for MOCA camp themes 
  • Submit written lesson plans, and additional supply lists within budget by the museum deadline 
  • Maintain a positive and enthusiastic attitude with staff, parents, and campers 
  • Ensure that activities are effectively and safely implemented following risk management protocol 
  • Responsible for the supervision all children during class time, including but not limited to any emergency situations that may arise
  • Demonstrate effective problem solving skills, patience, and flexibility 
  • Oversee behavioral plans and manage discipline issues, creating and coordinating safe and enjoyable activities for all campers 
  • Create accurate pre and post assessments of all campers by using guidelines dictated by The Children’s Trust
  • Set up, break down and clean the classroom on a daily basis 
  • Participate as a MOCA representative during the biweekly field trip
  • Maintain a consistent and punctual schedule
  • Manage final presentation on a biweekly basis
  • Utilize Teen Counselors, Interns and Volunteers in the classrooms to support instruction
  • Other responsibilities as requested

Job Requirements:

  • Candidates must have a college degree. Preferably a Bachelors in Education, Art, Art History or a related discipline; 
  • Must have 2 years of experience in the Visual Arts field 
  • Minimum 1 year experience working with children in an educational setting; 
  •  Effective written and oral communication skills; 
  •  Ability to enforce museum specific etiquette with students; 
  •  Be able to work collaboratively and inclusively with all constituent groups of students, teachers, museum staff and visitors; 
  • Ability to convey a professional appearance and attitude.
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Experience in a variety of art making skills including drawing, painting, ceramics, and sculpture; 
  • Experience in the arts; 
  • Currently has a Professional Educator Certificate, or pursuing certification; 
  • Proficiency in a foreign language desirable: Spanish or Creole 
Terms of employment:Seasonal employment; not to exceed 40 hours a week for the duration of the contract with a minimum of 35 hours a week; All Summer Arts Camp Educators must participate in a mandatory training on June 8th, 2019; This position requires a level II background check, which includes fingerprinting.
