HistoryMiami, a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate, is a museum focused on the history of South Florida. The institution’s mission is to weave Miami's past by telling the stories of its communities, individuals, places and events. HistoryMiami advocates for a deeper understanding for the importance of the past in shaping Miami's future.
This premier cultural institution is home to a variety of educational resources, including the Museum of HistoryMiami, the Archives & Research Center, the Education Center, and the South Florida Folklife Center.
The Archives & Research Center contains resources that document the Miami region, South Florida and the Caribbean. Open to the public, it houses the museum’s archives, photographs and reference library.
With the acquisition of a second building on the Cultural Plaza, the South Florida Folklife Center recently opened a Folklife Gallery to the public featuring artifacts from the museum’s collections. This gallery also serves as a space for performances, demonstrations and other cultural programs.
