Company Description:

Fantasy Theatre Factory (FTF) is a professional touring theatre created in New York in 1977 by Ed Allen and Mimi Schultz. The company expanded, incorporated as a Florida Not-for-Profit in 1982, and has toured the State of Florida and internationally since that time. As a touring theatre, FTF is uniquely different from housed theatres in that we take theatre to our audience. This gives particularly under-served communities the best access to our programs. FTF performs in rural and inner-city schools, theatres, parks, hospitals, community centers--practically everywhere. Sets, props, costumes, and even actors must be able to travel for extended periods of time. In this manner, Fantasy Theatre presents more than 350 Florida programs, reaching over 150,000 people each year. FTF's mission is to make more quality theatre programs available to more people.

FTF programs are an evolution of more than 35 years of performing and teaching in Florida. Company directors are recognized for their exceptional talent and entertaining programs and as effective teachers and mentors in a wide variety of performance skills and arts administration. Fantasy Theatre received the Excellence in Direct Service to Children Award in 2013 from the Children's Trust, among its many other honors.

In 2013, Larry Fields became the 2nd Artistic Director of Fantasy Theatre in the company's over 35 year history. Mr. Fields has served with the company for over 10 years in various capacities before taking his current leadership role.

Local & Regional Outreach: FTF presents theatre for child and family audiences. FTF's 16+ touring shows appeal to preschool, elementary, family, adult, & senior audiences. Shows cover themes of: Children's Literature, Reading, Ecology, Social Service, Black History, Dance, English, Bully Prevention and Music. Fantasy Theatre programs include community events, theatre and school shows and residencies, at-risk workshops, field-trip programs and special events. As a Florida State Touring Company (1985 to 2016), we travel to over 8 FL counties each season.

Festival Production: Fantasy Theatre produces entertainment for large fairs and festivals throughout Florida, reaching thousands of people with fully-staged programs and street theatre. FTF has presented programs at THE FAIR since 1990. Since 1989, FTF has produced all Theater entertainment for the 2-day, Miami Beach Art Deco Festival. FTF has provided programming for “All Kids Included Festival,” produced by M-D Dept. of Cultural Affairs. FTF presents programs for M-D Book Fair, Art on Palm, and Coconut Grove Arts Festival.

Educational Outreach: FTF's Artist-In-Education Program features shows and workshops for children and in-service training for teachers. FTF partners with Broward, Dade, Hillsborough and Okeechobee County School Boards yearly to present theatre arts residency programs. FTF is part of Miami-Dade Schools Cultural Passport Program. FTF partners yearly with the Miami Children's Museum, Zoo Miami, Fairchild Tropical Garden, The FAIR and Broward & Dade School Boards.

FTF also produces its own Theatre Field-Trip Program throughout South Florida. This program serves areas that could not afford to bring in such theatre shows.

Special Needs Outreach: In 1993, the company's Mission Statement was amended to include a stronger commitment to providing free programs for special needs children and their families. FTF created Project Smile. This community outreach program sets aside funding for organizations that serve hospitalized children. FTF also provides 10% of all ticketed seats free to special needs children and organizations.

International Tours: Fantasy Theatre has toured to: Tokyo, Japan, the Arctic Circle, France, Holland, the Grand Bahamas Islands, Thiland and England.

Financial Support: Fantasy Theatre is a longtime recipient of state, regional, and local grants from the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs (since 1982), Miami-Dade County Dept. of Cultural Affairs, Broward Cultural Affairs Council, Hillsborough Council of Arts, as well as these county's school boards. Since 1994, Fantasy Theatre has served as a fiscal agent for multiple Miami-Dade Cultural Affairs programs. Since 1999, FTF has partnered with Regulatory and Economic Resources (RER) to present environmental programs throughout South Florida. These funds, along with others, allow us to present free programs to children and maintain our commitment to pay professional artists for their outstanding skills and ability to engage children in arts experiences.
